Debbie New, Coordinator
A teacher and anthropologist by training, Debbie has coordinated coalitions and working groups dedicated to decarbonization of the thermal sector. She launched the Vermont Community Thermal Networks and a Network Action Team (supported by Energy Action Network) in 2022 to advance Thermal Energy Network solutions in Vermont.
Much of her work involves facilitating action-oriented initiatives, creating supporting materials, and translating technical information for decision-makers, advocates, and the public.
Past Roles:
Co-coordinator of Gas Transition Allies, a coalition of more than 30 organizations and researchers focused on reducing methane emissions while transitioning to fossil-free energy sources.
Led the coalition’s outreach to local labor leaders, engaged institutional investors that are gas utility shareholders, and supported legislative, regulatory, and grassroots work. Co-led research initiatives on gas safety as well as hydrogen and biomethane.
Communications and education contractor, The Sunrise Project
Created video, webinars, and profiles for global finance campaigns targeting banks, insurers, and asset managers that are driving the climate crisis. Contributed to strategy, communications, and outreach.
Volunteer coach, trainer, and organizer, Mothers Out Front
Supported local team development and statewide team strategy as well as initiated a regional team targeting gas emissions and focused on a just transition to clean energy.
